Mono Bot Duo Bot

mbdb-poster

You will be able to check out my new series of mono prints in April at the Cathedral Coffee shop in collaboration with Green Door Printmaking studio. So where did the name come from? Well it comes from the process I have used – mono printing. But in the case of these works I have printed on both sides of the chinese paper, and the colour shines though, hence the Duo, becasue they are kind of Duo prints.

Some ‘dead good kids’ draw the Dead Good Kids!

Class 6NT at Shelton Junior School, Derby have been super creative and created these wonderful artworks based on The Dead Good Kids graphic art series. Each piece is based on an existing Dead Good Kids print. We love how they are using lots of great techniques such as perspective and shadow to achieve the artwork.

Neil Thurlow, Class 6NT ‘s teacher, introduced the class to Martin’s Dead Good Kids in their art sessions, after becoming a fan of the character art series himself. Neil had bought some Dead Good Kids artwork for his house, and thought the children would enjoy looking at the work and trying to create their own versions of it. And here are the results!

We've been shortlisted for a CIN Award

We were very pleased to hear today that we have been short listed for a CIN Award in the Graphic Design / Illustration category for the Greyhound project.

The Greyhound

The Greyhound

The Greyhound project was the first project we’ve worked on which really fused our graphic design work and artwork, in particular the Dead Good Kids character series. For the project Martin came up with a new Dead Good Kids character, Graham the Greyhound, and lots of new artworks.

Graham features on the swinging sign outside the pub (as pictured), and on numerous pieces of the graphic design work, including the menu’s, leaflets, adverts, staff t-shirts, rack illustration and much more. Inside the pub Graham takes pride of place in several artworks on the wall, alongside other Dead Good Kids favourites Edward and Verity.

CIN is a fantastic resource for Derby creatives, and we are big supporters of its work. To be short listed for a CIN award is a great honour for us.

We are really looking forward to the awards ceremony, which is on Tuesday 21st September 2010 at 6pm at Quad in Derby. And just as icing on the cake, one of our favourite creatives – Wayne Hemingway – is presenting the awards, so hopefully we will get to mingle with him too!

Introducing Graham the Dead Good Greyhound

Hello from Graham the Greyhound! Graham was created as part of a collaboration with the Derby Brewing Company, for their new pub The Greyhound, on Friargate in Derby.

The pub will feature the Dead Good Kids art throughout, and Design and i has done all of the design and branding for the new pub. This illustration of Graham was commissioned for the swinging pub sign at The Greyhound. The illustration builds on the Dead Good Kids style, using a a variation of the Victorian color scheme from the Dead Good Kids. There is another more detailed version of the artwork featured within the pub, with the Greyhound in a night time scene.

The Greyhound opens to the public at 8.30pm on Thursday 20th May 2010.
