Open Studio Success

July 14 2008

The response to the ‘Dead Good Kids’ exhibition at the recent Banks’ Mill Open Studio’s was overwhelming positive. Visitors to the exhibition were extremely enthusiastic about the artwork, and Martin sold several large canvasses, and numerous fine art prints of the Kids. Visitors seemed to enjoy the opportunity to read the ‘Dead Good Kids’ background story, with many stopping to read the entire 4-page story.

There has also been considerable media interest in the ‘Dead Good Kids’, & London based film production company The Film Bureau Company are currently developing a Dead Good Kids film and cartoon series, after the idea was pitched widely at the recent Cannes Film Festival.

In addition to this, Martin has also added lots more new ‘Dead Good Kids’ artwork to his new art and illustration website (http://www.martinhyde.co.uk) and set up an Ebay shop. The new ‘Dead Good Kids’ Ebay shop gives the public a secure, convenient way of purchasing “Dead Good Kids’ artwork from home.

Derby based artist and illustrator Martin Hyde, who has an MA with distinction and was a finalist in the Europrix Top Talent Award held in Vienna in 2004, has had a busy start to 2008. After spending the first few months of the year developing two new series of illustrations – children’s characters ‘Dead Good Kids’, and space based cartoon strip ‘We Come In Peace’, there have been a number of exciting developments. There has been considerable interest in the ‘Dead Good Kids’, a series of character-based illustrations originally designed for Martin’s son, which seem to have taken on a life of their own. Martin is currently in talks with a London based film production company about the possibility of a Dead Good Kids film and cartoon series, and the idea was pitched widely at the recent Cannes Film Festival.

In addition to this, Martin has been adding new artwork to his brand new website for his art and illustration work. The new website, which has just been launched, enables Martin to get his work out into the public domain very quickly, as it acts like on online gallery displaying work and enabling viewers to purchase prints of pieces they like.

“I am really excited by the move” said Martin. It has given me bags of inspiration, due to the great light and panoramic views from the new studio”. “I am looking forward to showing off my new space, and my new work, at the forthcoming Banks’ Mill Open Studio’s in June”.

Bright future for Derby artist

September 10 2007

Derby based artist and designer Martin Hyde has just had his first five pieces of artwork hung in the prestigious Tregoning gallery.

Martin, who has an MA with distinction and was a finalist in the Europrix Top Talent Award held in Vienna in 2004, decided to diversify into creating fine art pieces earlier this year when he moved into a studio at Banks’ Mill in Derby. After showing his personal art work for the first time at the Banks’ Mill open studios this summer he was approached by a number of galleries, including the prestigious Tregoning gallery, to show his work. Martin, whose commercial artwork and design has been featured in magazines such as Creative Review, and who has created the artwork for numerous record sleeves including ‘Joan as a Police Woman’, has always aspired to become a fine artist producing his own personal pieces. He was therefore delighted to be taken on by the Tregoning due to its excellent reputation as the best fine art gallery outside of London.

Martins’ work mixes various techniques that he has developed, to create detailed and aesthetic pieces, which are highly stylised and unique. The fusion of his technique and his eccentric vision allow him to create some truly fresh art. The work is very personal to him, representing the different sides of his personality and his gothic tinged view of the world.

Martin currently has five pieces being shown in the gallery, and owner Phil Tregoning will be giving mentoring and support to the new artist.

“I’m very excited to have my art work shown in the Tregoning gallery, and to be mentored and represented by Phil. I feel it’s a great opportunity and look forward to a long working relationship with both the gallery and him” said Martin.

"We are very excited about Martin joining Tregoning, his work brings a great sense of craftsmanship, originality, flair and as well as being brilliant entertainment" said Phil Tregoning

Martin’s artwork is currently on show exclusively at the Tregoning fine art gallery, 4 Queen Street, Derby.
